  • Overview

    Code medical and dental care transactions/services for billing purposes; enters data into computer system.

    Responsibilities

    • Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing factual information which may require the interpretation of policies and procedures; takes messages or refers the caller to the proper person.
    • Codes dental assessments by using dental codes; enters data into RPMS (Resource and Patient Management System) using International Classification of Disease-9th Revision (ICD-9).
    • Submits claims for reimbursement.
    • Codes medical assessments by using the ICD-9 for Public Health providers (RN, Health Advocates, CHRs, Health Ed Specialist, School Nurse).
    • Enters historical mammograms done outside the clinic; updates immunizations to RPMS (given out outside the clinic).
    • Audiology Services- schedules patients, notifies patient w/day, date & time; prints schedules, pulls charts & referrals for use by medical staff
    • Performs minor repairs on hearing aids such as changing wax guards, tubing, domes, battery doors, and cleaning; dispenses hearing aid batteries to patients.
    • Performs data entry on Noah Software (enters patient’s audiograms, speech tests, loudness and records notes).
    • Sends out repairs to hearing aid companies; prepare proper paper work and schedules shipments; orders new hearing aids at Audiologist’s request
    • Contributes to the overall quality of the unit’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
    • Represents the Pueblo with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

    Qualifications

    High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); AND successful completion of a formal coder training program; AND one (1) year of medical coding experience.
