  • Overview

    Responsible for providing professional services in the diagnosis/evaluation of mental and emotional disorders of individuals through observation, interview, and psychological tests, and formulate and administer programs of treatment.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Identifies psychological, emotional or behavioral issues by conducting client intake, focusing on diagnostic and functional evaluations.
    • Diagnoses psychological, emotional or behavioral disorders by way of administering, evaluating and interpreting psychological testing.
    • Composes psychological testing reports and presents to the Behavioral Health team with recommendations regarding treatment plan development.
    • Develops and implements plans and therapeutic processes; evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary.
    • Provides effective individual, family and group psychotherapy and refers to other community programs, agencies and resources as required.
    • Provides crisis intervention by responding to client’s needs during acute emotional, behavioral and physical distress; consults with on-call staff during crisis call responses.
    • Attends and participates in case staffing; provides team; conducts and coordinates consultation with medical providers and ancillary staff.
    • Documents in a timely manner in Electronic Health Record (EHR) system the assessments, progress notes (SOAP), treatment plans; discharges summaries and other client related information.
    • Assists with clinical supervision for assigned program staff as required.
    • Participates and performs outreach with community health programs.
    • Identifies deficiencies and make recommendations to modify treatment, procedures, and guidelines to improve patient care.
    • Enhances professional development through participation in educational programs, meetings, and workshops.
    • Represents the Pueblo with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
    • Contributes to the overall quality of the unit’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures. 

    Required Knowledge and Skills

    Knowledge of:

    • Program policies and procedures, to promote effective Behavioral Health services.
    • Human behavior and performance and individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation.
    • Techniques of assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
    • Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
    • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
    • Applicable laws, codes and regulations
    • EHR and related software applications/systems.
    • Techniques for understanding and effectively communicating with individuals of various cultures

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    Education and Experience:

    Doctoral degree in psychology; AND three (3) years of professional experience as a clinical psychologist.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

    • Valid license from the State of New Mexico to practice as a Psychologist.
    • Valid New Mexico Driver’s license.
